Something most of us missed while reading Tokyo ghoul.

1. After leaving the hospital he goes to eat out with kaneki and kaneki pukes(manga only)
2. Kaneki misses classes after that and is hungry
3. Hide calls to give Kaneki notes.
   
4. Kaneki calls him later to tell him to come over as a sure way of being saved after spilling his guts all over the floor.Because he trusts Hide with his life.
   
5. If his skin was penetrable, Hide would have walked in on a bleeding dying crying Kaneki.Kaneki is desperate.
   
6. When it does not work, he finds things to eat and realizes coffee is the way to go.
7. He gets excited and goes grocery shopping.
   
8. Even though Hide is on his way to give him notes
9. Kaneki sees someone eating a human and realizes his perversion of finding the aroma of a corpse appetizing.
   
10. And that is when he meets Nishiki and Touka and falls further into despair realizing he won’t be able to live without consuming others.
    

His experience that night tells him that

and when he receives this message …

What most of us missed is that Hide went all the way to Kaneki’s home and waited for him to come back.

which makes that sentence even more powerful if you ask me,

 Because it shows that he was waiting for him even before he got abducted by Yamori.He was waiting all along.

He is already lonely because Kaneki has been missing classes.Which is why he wanted to give him notes, even though..

He probably thought Kaneki didn’t want to see him

but he still wanted to help even if Kaneki did not want to meet him.

Another point to be made :

When I first read the manga I did not pay attention to anything Hide was saying because of the current running plot, Kaneki changing into a half ghoul was so attention grabbing that things like Takatsuki and Hide being lonely did not make a statement.

Also foreshadowed, Hide mentions Takatsuki to Hide and uses male pronouns.

Takatsuki we know from later on to be female.Hide knew of Takatsuki being at the station but did not go to check it out himself, he just really wanted his friend to come out, he was using an excuse to see him.

Only later on does Hide actually meet Takatsuki ..

that lie though, adding that in because with all of the previous things this covers it all up because it’s the loudest.It manages to make everything seem unimportant because he reacts so much, but who would blame him.after all :
