Cute as they may look, ladybugs are actually fungus-infested tanks that plow through and devour entire herds of little mites and aphids. Their large, dome-shaped body serves as a shield, while their bright colour is meant to warn other animals of the poison they use to protect themselves. When attacked, they will secrete a toxin from their body called "reflex blood". They will use this even on rival ladybugs and infect them with a deadly fungus. 

When food is scarce, they resort to cannibalism. They will eat their larva siblings or feed on still soft larvae as adults. They are also highly promiscuous. STDs like mites and other parasytes are common.
